Another experience, brief but intense, allowed me to set foot in the world of offshore wind farms in Saint-Brieuc.

At the request of IBERDROLA  (Spain) and its French subsidiary, Ailes Marines, the goal was to create a tool that would enable supply vessels working in the area to locate and avoid fishing buoys attached to nets.

Since AIS beacons (with the exception of AtoNs) were prohibited on-site, a SPOT (GLOBALSTAR) satellite tracker was repurposed from its original use and adapted for this new marine environment.

AIS AtoN (Automatic Identification System for Aids to Navigation) is a digital device placed on a physical object (such as a buoy, a lighthouse, or an offshore wind turbine) to broadcast its position and status directly onto the radar and ECDIS screens of nearby vessels.

Thanks to Laurent, who made the success of this project possible… even if the industrialization phase was ultimately entrusted to NKE Marine Electronics, a well-known Breton player.
